Well, it seems that misdemeanor theft is a pretty common trend in this forum. Regardless, if someone could give me their two cents, I'd be thankful.

Two years ago I was caught shoplifting from a Walmart in FL. The total amount was something around $40. I was not arrested, but I did go to trial. The judge withheld my Adjudication of Guilt. Now I am looking to get a clerical job in a police station (yeah, it figures) and assume that they are going to run a background check. I have two questions:

1. Will my Adjudication of Guilt show on the criminal search?
2. If it does, can I have it sealed before I apply?

If anyone knows anything, please post a response in private or repost in this forum. Thanks.

Every state is different about sealing or expunging records. In Tx, you can't get it done. Most states have a waiting period and two years is usually not enough. Check out the archives on this site and answers there to questions, similar to yours. Look up on the internet your states requirements. I believe the adjuducation will show up when the police department does a background check. People believe that if they aren't taken downtown and booked that they haven"t been "arrested", or if they are given a citation that it's not a misdameanor but it shows up on background checks as an arrest even if adjudicated and citations show up as a misdimeanor.
