Hello,

I was caught at Store name in Canada (Toronto).

I was caught stealing 2 bottles of moisturizers altogether worth 76$ for pimples,

I signed some papers, gave them my address, they took a photo (for store reference), and the police came, but just gave a talking to me and I was not charged (first time offense).

They said I would probably get a letter from company requiring me to pay them compensation.

I know you guys don't know how much I'll be charged, the security man vaguely said maybe 100-200$,

These question I have, if you could please answer:

1) because the police were called, and I had to sit there for like an hour with the security dude - is it likely the cost will be rather high? like 400$ (because of the people's time I took)

2) I see stories of people not receiving their civil demand stuff for months sometimes, is there ANY way to find out how long it will take (maybe by calling them) - because the wait might drive me crazy : (

3) Is there perhaps any way to call them sooner (maybe next week when I assume the civil demand is handed in and received by company) and find out if they decided to try and get compensation, or how much they may request?

4) I see other stories of people saying AFTER the money is recieved by the company, they have the right to press more charges against you... is that likely at all? (as long as I stay clear of the store)

Sorry for all the questions - I needed to be caught, I just hope it's not over 200$ : (

The laws and guidleine for Civil Demand vary. If I was to guess (its only a guess) if you were in US the Civil Demand fine (unrelated to court fines) would be over $300.00

I live in Canada - I just gave a call to the security dude who caught me, and he assured me it wouldn't be over 300$ because I stole under 100$.

Also, can the company compare my photo to security footage from within the past months at other stores, and I guess press even further charges against me after I was released?

Or would it not provide proof enough unless I was caught red handed.
