condemed apartment

can a landlord moved me into an apartment that was condemed by our local code compliance officer? the people that lived there befor, cooked drugs in the aprtment. there was no decantamination that ever took place. i cleaned the apartment myself. is it legal to rent out an apartment under these conditions?
