I have a condo in Hollywood Florida and they did a special assessment for the roof when the hurricanes went through there in 2005. Come to find out the insurance paid for everything with thr roof and now they are keeping the money. Can you tell me the law regarding this and if there is where I can find it.

Thanks

The Florida condo laws are here: http://www.ccfj.net/condo718statutes.html

Your condominium association bylaws are wherever they keep them.

If you're wondering whether they've done anything illegal, you'll need to post more details about the nature of the assessment, what they've done with the money, and what your condominium bylaws provide.

The money was collected for the damage to the roof back in 2005 from a hurricane. They collected the money because they thought that they would have to pay the deductable but come to find out the insurance paid everything. Needless to say they did not inform us of this untill we asked about it a couple of years later because it took a long time to get everything done. We had problems with a power line that was to close to the roof so FPL had to shut the power off while the work was being done and the first company that the association hired did not come out to do the work so they had to find another company anyway, the roof was covered completley and the association just kept the money. From what the President of the association stated in an email to me was they were keeping the money for other expenses. There was no meeting to discuss this with the unit owners. I don't think anybody else knows about this except the people on the board. And regarding the by laws, I have requested a copy but no body will send it to me. We moved from Hollywood back in 2005 and we live in central Florida now.
