When I moved in to my current apartment I signed a deposit agreement as well as a rental agreement. It turns out now that I moving out that the two agreements have different ending dates for the lease. The first one I signed (deposit) stated it would start 8/1/08 and end 7/31/09. Turns out the second one (rental) states it doesnt end until 8/31/09. I understand I should have read it all more carefully but can I be held to the 8/31/09 agreement if I signed one document (deposit) stating otherwise? When the manager I worked with, who is no longer there, spoke of the lease at the time I was signing, it was stated I would be signing a one year lease and that was what was verbally agreed to. Now there's this extra month involved which I dont feel I should be obligated to as I didnt knowinly agree to it and the paperwork has conflicting end dates. Help!

If brought before a judge, it could go either way since you have two pieces of paper with two different lease ending dates.

You could argue that the orginal lease was only for one year. Management could argue that although you state you didn't knowingly agree to it your signature on the lease says otherwise.

Do you live in a state which only allows leases to be one year or less?
