Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Confussed

I need some legal advise with a situation I am going through. I was along with a 16yr old back in 1978 who commited a retail theft. Since I was 23yrs old at the time they arrested me. She never got anything. Being now that I am 53yrs old just finished college and went for a job I can not get work because of this offense. I contacted an Attorney who told me that first of all I can not get this off of my record which I am trying to get this expunged. That a statue does not provide for this. I pleaded guilty at the time which I will admit I didnt understand the system back then but I did do this and since I pleaded guilty there isnt much I can do until Im like 60 or 65 yrs of age???? I want to be my own legal representation and need some advice on this all. I need to understand how to file for a hearing in this county court and but the bits and pieces together for the motion. I need to do this for myself if I can not get legal representation I want to be my own counsel on this case. Please help!!!!!!!

I had a short letter called confussed on or about Oct. 1, 2008. I didnt get any reply and I am wondering why? I have since then received a letter from the district justice office stating that this was a summary back then nothing more than a traffice ticket is this true? After receiving this summary for retail theft which Ive never done the same sheriff that arrested me hired me to work at our county jail I never paid any fine nor did I ever do probation how can this be??? some one please reply to this request. desperate

I wrote a letter beginning of Oct. I didnt receive any reply to this letter. So I wanted to try once again.
Since I wrote this letter called confussed I spoke to several people attorneys sheriff etc about all of this.
They are telling me this is just a summary nothing more then a traffic ticket is this true?
Also I got hired from the same sheriff that arrested me to work in our county jail not long after this happened how can this be this one has alot of people confussed?
Is there anything I can do about this since they are telling me I can not get this expunged do to a statue? I am wondering since it has been so long ago?
Help me with this please. :nuts
