My son worked for a liquor store owned by a faamily friend off the books. He got caught stealing from the register and was caught on camera a few times. They found out he was voiding transactions and takeing the cash. Our friend (the business owner) quoted the theft at $6,000 based on all the voids that occured since January. Not nearly all those voids were my son and our friend asked for $2,000 compensation. I will not fix my sons problems, but my son is stubborn and denied the accusations as well as denied to pay any money. What can his boss do to him and should i be worried for my son? What are all the possible outcomes?

Thanks.

There are many potential outcomes.
The owner could report the matter to the police, your son arrested, charged, and convicted in a court of law.
He might get prison time, maybe jail time, maybe probation, and he will be required to pay full restitution.

If the matter ends up in criminal courts, he has damaged his life, maybe forever.

The best way to treat stubborn, insolent, recalcitrant people is to sit back and allow LIFE to instruct them.

He might (most likely will be) fired. The boss might also press criminal charges.

Well if he was working off the books, then they also have some liability for not paying for things like workers compensation insurance, unemployment insurance (State and federal) and FICA taxes.

That said, if they have him on video, they can easily decide to press charges and change his life forever. I have no doubt they will terminate his employment.

if it were my son, he would be paying back the $2k that he stole under the condition the owner doesn't press charges and thanks his lucky stars that he won't have a criminal record that would follow him for the rest of his life!

I am a Retail Theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. Its in your sons best interest to repay the 2 grand. If his employer files a criminal complaint it is likely a felony charge.
