I had an oral agreement with someone for the purchase of a trailer for$1200 in monthly payments. I stopped payments when I paid 1200. He said he misplaced the title and when he found it I would get it. He showed up this morning saying I still owed him $500 and I had til end of the day to pay or he was getting it towed. Can he legally do this or is there something I can do to stop this?

You apparently have nothing more for proof than your word against his.
You can contact the police.
At least they'll keep things peaceful.
If there is a remedy for you, it lies in a court.
Without a written, signed contract, things look doubtful for you.

I had to deposit straight into his acct. he lives in Ohio. I'm in eugene. Would receipts count for something

He is likely to say that you liked him so much that you GIFTED him money.
The receipts are meaningless without a contract to say why you gave him money.
I call this a possible stalemate.
