I have a friend that recently had a contempt of court filed against her by her ex... the details as I know them: The divorce agreement required to make the car payment on a vehicle AND loan that is in his name. The statements come to him and he was to forward them to her for payment. The loan wasn't transferred to her due to cost or something, not exactly sure. She had the money set aside to pay but he failed to provide the statements which she was waiting for to uphold her part of the agreement. He went ahead and made two of the payments. The loan was 3 months behind before she ever received any paperwork. The loan place wouldn't give her any info because she wasn't on the loan. She is current as of this date. He filed a contempt of court charge against her because she didn't make the payments. She can't afford a lawyer and is scheduled to appear Mar 17th. She's worried sick about facing jail time because of this.

Any advice for how she should handle this?

THANK YOU!

She should explain it to the judge. It doesn't sound that complicated. Sounds like he is the author of her failure to make the payments. I assume she contacted him and asked how she was to make payments? And she reimbursed him for the payments he made? At any rate she can't be expected to pay a debt she has no information about.
