I hired an alarm service in 1999 and cancelled it last year due to their lack of service and poor customer service. Later I recieved a bill for around $275. for time remaining on contract. In Calif, how long is a contract like this good for, if for example it just rolls over every year without review, ( on the photocopy I have it says; the company agrees to monitor signals from the system for an initial term of _____yrs. (the blank IS blank) form the date of this agreement. The customer agrees to pay the company the monitoring fees. After the inital term, the monitoring service will renew for one year terms.)
I paid $29.95 each month without fail. I had many problems with this service, especially after it changed owners a few years ago. During my dispute with the alarm co. (and after I cancelled) they sent out a tech to service my alarm system. It took him about 3 hours to get it in working order. He pulled up carpet in upstairs bedroom to reveal broken wires that prove the system was not in order.
So, finally, my question is, do I have a leg to stand on? They have already sent me to collections, with intrest I may add, even tho this has been in dispute. Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated so much.
Thanks Kelly
