A relative died and one of his friends gave me a ride to the funeral. After the long drive, I allowed this person to stay the night at my house. While I was sleeping this person stole all of my medications. I have serious health problems and have a prescription for pain medicine, as well as an anti-anxiety medication. I was advised by family/friends to file a police report, so I did. Since the guy lives in another city (but same state), the officer told me rather bluntly that it was unlikely there would be much of an investigation over a few bottles of medications. I had kind of expected that, but I filed the report anyway because what he did was incredibly wrong (and caused me two weeks of excessive misery---beyond pain meds, he stole everything else too, since he didn't know what any of the other stuff was. enjoy my rheumatoid arthritis meds, jerkface). Anyway I got a voicemail the other day from a detective saying she'd been assigned to the case and that she wanted to give me an "update". What does this mean? Has he been arrested? Does this mean there -is- an investigation? And what do I have to do in all this? Talking to the police is scary to me, and I am also concerned because the perp seems to be a malicious, vindictive person. Before filing the report I confronted him and asked what happened to all of my meds, and he said essentially said "screw you, im out of town, and you're sick and can't leave your house, whatever". That was when I knew he did it and filed. Now what happens?

Now you call the detective back and see what she has to say. Or you don't. Your choice.

Sorry, but the crystal ball is out being recalibrated so I don't know if he's been arrested or not.

Your best bet is to call the detective back & see about the update - your choice. There is no way for us to know anything about the update.
