Before i was born my father came in possession of a very famous Hollywood legends wedding photographs (1960's). They seem to be the official photographer as some are very private poses. I have held onto these photo's like i said all my life (45years). The actress since has found out i have them and would like them returned, who has the legal ownership of these photographs? The actress, the photographer or myself?
Thanks

A court will determine the legal owner, should the actress eventually sue you.

You have possession.

Ownership will eventually be determined by how your dad obtained them from the photographer.

The photographer's ownership is the key to the answer.

Did the photographer own them?

That will be the issue upon which a judge will rule, if you are ever sued.

You are under no legal duty to acquiesce to the demands of the actress.

Only a court can order you to return the pictures.

thanks for the speedy reply, much appreciated. I have been trying to research the photographer but not having any luck so far. Their stamp is on the back with his details, but no mention regarding copyright.
Thanks again.

As a final note, do not communicate with the actress.

You are better off to ignore all uninvited intrusions into your life, except of course, those dealing with matters of law; originating from a court of competent jurisdiction.

Or, governmental agencies (IRS) with certain statutory authority.
