8 years ago,I cosigned for some friends to rent a house ,(x friends) .to make a long story short .things with their landlord went bad.I recieved a call one day from this landlords office manager. She explained to me how i was going to be held liable for a $10,000 assalt charge plus whatever damages were done to the house .i told her please dont call me again.(it had been so long id forgotten if i ever cosigned)i told HER to send me a copy of the rental agreement with my signature .she also told me THAT I HAD COME TO HER OFFICE AND PROVIDED A COPY OF MY DRIVERS LISENCE ! I KNEW I HAD NEVER WENT TO HER OFFICE THATS FOR SURE .GOT THE STUFF IN THE MAIL .IT LOOKED LIKE MY SIGNATURE BUT UNDERNETH IT SAID I WAS A TENANT! AND THE MY DRIVERS LISCENCE WAS AN OLD EXPIRED ONE.THESE "FRIENDS OF MINE WERE NOT MINE AT ALL THEY WERE MY GIRLFRIENDS SO NOW I GET SERVED AT MY WORK A SUMMONS.IF I COSIGNED IT WAS NOT TO BE A TENANT .IT WAS TO BE A COSIGNER.I THINK THE OFFICE MANAGER LET THE NEW TENANTS "MY FRIENDS"JUST BRING IN ONE OF MY DRIVERS LISCENCES AND SHE MADE A COPY. BUT HERES MY QUESTION BESIDES THE OBVEOUS.IM THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS BEEN SERVED THE LANDLORD CAN'T FIND THE ACTUAL PEOPLE WHO LIVED THERE FOR PAST 8 YEARS. i KNOW WHARE THEY MOVED TO THEY BOUGHT A HOUSE AND HIS WIFE PUT HERSELF THROUGH SCHOOL SHE HAS A GOOD JOB NOW.SHOULD I JUST GET A LAWYER TO RESPOND OR SHOULD I CALL THE LANDLORD AND GIVE HIM THIS INFORMATION? WILL IT MATTER TO HIM WILL HE DROP THE SUIT AGAINST ME? IN THE SUMMONS THERE IS A $10,000 ASSAULT CHARGE.NO POLICE REPORT WAS MADE.AND COUNT 2 IS THE DAMAGE TO HOUSE WITCH IS MINIMAL.IS THIS SLUMLORD JUST HOPING I DONT RESPOND SO HE WINS BY DEFAULT? THANKS,SMC789

an assault charge? I don't quite understand on what this summons is based and what is charged here. But since you have been officially served you definitely want to avoid a default judgment, so you should consult an attorney and have him explain to you what is going on there.

Federal Employee Garnishments

I have a friend who works for the National Park Service. He has some past due Credit Card Accounts due to some bad judgements.

Can his federal employee status give unfettered access to the credit card companies under the new bankruptcy laws? Daine
