Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Could I be an accomplice to theft?

My friend and I both work for a catering company that mainly does weddings. During this particular wedding the venue left the unused alcohol outside to be picked up the next day. After the wedding my friend decided he wanted to steal some of the bottles since he thought they didn't count them and wouldn't notice. I said this was a bad idea and that I did not want to be a part of it.

However, this wedding was an hour drive from where we live and I drove both of us there. After I told him that I didn't want to do it, he got out of my car. Not wanting to leave him alone an hour away from home and past midnight, I waited for him to come back. But he went and took about 6 or 7 bottles of wine that probably cost about $150 since the wine seemed pretty cheap. Initially, I locked him out of the car and told him I wouldn't let him in unless he put them back, but he wasn't budging. After a couple minutes of this I let him back into the car and drove us home.

So I guess my question is this: Could I be charged with theft along with my friend even though I tried to stop it multiple times? There are texts between us that back my story, and I'm sure he would tell the truth too. Also, if I am charged, what actions should I take to protect myself?

Yes.

even though I tried to stop it multiple times?

Doesn't matter what you "tried" to do. Only matters what you "did" do.

There are texts between us that back my story, and I'm sure he would tell the truth too.

Really?

He's a criminal. He'll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat.

Also, if I am charged, what actions should I take to protect myself?

Exercise your right to remain silent and hire a lawyer. DO NOT try to explain yourself to the cops. Let your lawyer handle it.
