I have already posted my case in this forum. I have been caught shoplifting of $65 worth merchandise from a store. The police gave me a ticket. I have pleaded not guilty and requested for a trial date. My trial date is today only. The police who arrested me came straight away and told about the diversion program. It is not even like the regular diversion program, he explained everything to my lawyer. I have accepted that. It is nothing but, I have do to an online program regarding this and once I complete that program the charges will be dismissed and after the charges are dismissed, my attorney will petition for the expungement of the records. As, it is a 1st time offense I have got out of this with this program. This program is simple and very quick to complete. In about a 1 month from now, I will be having a 2nd hearing and in that hearing I have to show them the proof of the completion of the program. For all 1st time offenders I just want to tell you one thing, do 2 things either plead not gulty and win the case or simply go for the diversion program. Once you complete the program, you will be eligible for the expungement of the criminal records on you. Please don't panic and hope my update helps you and think in all positives and don't get involved in any trouble in the future.

I don't know exactly what type of program that is but they told me in about two weeks from now I will receive everything in mail about that program and they told me it is quick and easy to complete, even I didn't got any community service also. But, I would like to say all 1 point i.e even you wantedly stealed anything and you are guilty in that never say that you plead guilty for your offense. Please plead not guilty and delay the things or if the diversion program is offered, simply go for that. The advantages of diversion program is that you are not convicted for the offense. A conviction is very serious. IF your found that your convicted for the offense it is very hard to get the records expunged. Diversion is a non conviction, if any 1st time low level offenders are offered with this, simply go for the program.
