I had sold a transmission on craigslist that was in good condition and worked perfect. I sold it for 800, private party and met up at a local mall. He had installed it and says gears 3 and 4 are messed up and now wants to take me to small claims. How do I know that the "bad" transmission is even the one I sold him or that he didnt mess it up upon installation? Like I said the transmission was in perfect condition when I owned it. He has posted on a forum site all my personal info and that he has contacted local authorities, made a report, and he also has friends on there who have harassed me on facebook.com and made threatening comments towards me on his forum post. What action should I take from here? I have responded back to him with craigslist terms of use #15 which is 'Disclaimer of Warranties' and talks about selling is as is at your own risk. I also stated that there was no intentions of anyone being ripped off and I dont feel its right to post my info. Any advice would be helpful, thank you

It is the buyer's responsibility to make sure the transmission is in acceptable condition prior to making the purchase. For all you know, the buyer damaged the transmission during installation.
The buyer can certainly go to small claims, but won't get far.
Ignore the buyer, the Facebook comments etc. Don't reply or attempt to defend yourself. Go to court if you are served papers.

You really have nothing to worry about. People regret their purchases all the time. This sale was "as is".

When we met up i had asked him if he would like to unwrap it and inspect it, to show him it was in the condition as advertised, he said no. He is a canadian resident as well, and lives around 6 hours away. He started sending me messages within 12 hours of selling. I will take your advice and ignore the buyer. Thank you for your response.

He's Canadian? He can't sue you in a US court, easily.
Ignore him.
He's been sniffing too much maple syrup.
