In 1997, we got a credit card with a 1,000. limit. After 2 or 3 years, we told them to cancel the card and we just kept paying down the balance. After losing our 2 yr.old son, my parents becoming ill, a new baby, etc. we just forgot about it. No more bills, calls, nothing. Then in 2008, a default judgement was issued. We were notified after the fact. Yesterday, our bank account was frozen by the lawyer. What can we do? What are our options? Do we have any?

If you were never served notice of a hearing then you may be able to get back into court and have this resolved.

What is the last date you made a payment on the account? It sounds like it might be old enough that you can go back into court, argue that you were not served, and then claim the statue of limitations has run out to void the judgment.

This is, of course, assuming you did not receive notice. Is there a chance you received something in the mail at some point and did not open it, assuming it was junk?

Your bank should be able to tell you what authority froze your accounts... find out which court issued the judgment against you and get in to see that judge.
