I had a debit for an old credit card bill coming out of checking account from a law firm. I closed the checking account after paying the amount I owed the credit card account. I did not pay the outrages fees the law firm wanted. I sent a certified letter to law firm stating the account was closed and not to take anymore money out. They did nothing for 3 months after that and today I recieved a letter saying they were going to debit the acount for the old amount. Can they do this after I sent the notice? Should I contact an attorney for my protection of a check on closed account? Thank you for any help.

We are missing many facts. You evidently paid back the principal of a loan and not the additional fees which probably you owe, at least to some degree. If the agreement you have says they can do something, they probably will.
