I was recently compensated by the state of Illinois for a crime victim claim. The state has paid my bills resulting from the incident. There are two accounts that remain in collections, even once the original debtors were paid. I have two questions. 1. Is it legal for these accounts to be sent to collections once a claim is filed? 2. Do I have a right to legal actions if these accounts are not removed?

If the debts are your debts, the creditor doesn't have to wait to until you receive compensation form the state or anyone else.

If you made trhe debts, you owe the debts.

I suggest you try and arrange a settlement with the creditors, not the debt collectors.

Why?

Because you don't have a valid cause of action against the creditor or the scavenger, scum sucking debt collectors for trying to collect a valid debt!

Now, if you dispute the debt, that is another matter.

Tell the creditor you dispute the debt and they will advise you as to how you next must proceed.
