Back in April, my husband and I filed for a life insurance policy. We were not told anything about needing a physical exam and the agent knew my husband was going out to a remote location where there are no qualified physicians to give him the exam. We also talked about our kids and turns out her sister worked at the same school our kids went to. Well, a week later, her sister accused my son of hitting another student. I stood up for my son because apparently, this kid has been bullying him for the past 2-3 months of school and asked my son if he wanted to fight so my son made a motion as if he was going to hit him but never did. I took it all the way up to the superintendent assistant who overturned my sons suspension and removed it from his records and proved our agents sister a liar. I wasn't popular for this because this other kid was suspended over it. I didn't know our agent would take this personally.
When a packet came with instructions for me to go to a clinic, I called the agent and cancelled my life insurance policy because we couldn't afford to pay for the visit. She didn't inform me that I wouldn't be paying it out of pocket. When the refund check came back, it said "Application Not Approved" even though I had called to cancel my policy. I didn't realize they cancelled my husband's policy as well because as I was filling out a prequalification letter from our bank, it asked about our life insurance policy. I called the office where the secretary in the office was being really condascending towards me. It's a small office. All women. When I inquired about my husband's life ins policy, she goes, "I believe, uhm, under the slut-term clause, your life ins policy has been cancelled." Then she ranted off random numbers in a very condascending manner. I asked for her full name and she was very hesitant to give me any information. I had to be very persistent and forceful to get any information out of her.
I've talked to the office manager about it and the response I got was that I misunderstood what she said. I was told that she said "select term." I called another insurance agency in their complaint department and asked him what a "select term clause" was that they used as a means of cancelling policies. He had NO idea what it was. Then after I told him the whole story, he concluded that I misunderstood what she said and told me that there was a policy called select term. I reminded him how he didn't know what a select term clause was and he apologized.
Is there anything that I can do about this situation?
