I was involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday morning in Connecticut. While driving to work in the midst of a snowstorm, I made a turn around a notoriously dangerous corner that is marked with sharp turn signs, and lost control of my Chevy Cavalier. I ended up hitting a 12in x 12in cement post.
My airbags deployed, my windshield cracked and the auto body shop later advised me that my car was in fact totaled.
When the police officer finally arrived, the first thing he did was make a joke to the owners of the property that this must be something that they are used to, and that they could come down to the department for a running tally of how many times it has occurred. The police officer never asked me if I was alright.
Not only do I not have collision on my car, and not only did it end up being totaled, but the police officer decided to write me a ticket for "Traveling Fast For Weather Conditions".
I was driving well under the posted speed limit for this area and was certainly using my best judgement during this snowstorm. My only explanation for this crash is that the roads were not plowed and sanded sufficiently, and also if there have been several crashes in this specific area, then perhaps something needs to be changed here.
I would really like to fight this ticket, but could use some advice as to what exactly my chances are, and how I could go about that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
