Hi.

Well, I had some troubles through my twenties and broke a lot of laws. I was addicted to heroin. I ended up going to jail in Texas and prison in another state for 2 years. I had an old warrant that my mom had told me about but during the course of my use and over many years it just stayed in the back of my mind.

I want to be able to visit my family in NC but I am terrified to go. Since the time of the warrant I have served time for possession and sales. I got out of that and finished school at a local Community College with a 4.0 GPA on the Dean's List. I have been accepted into the University. I have mentored other women re-entering the school system after many years in prison. I have served on a Board of Directors for a Non-Profit that specializes in helping ex prisoners change their lives and become valuable and productive members of society. I have a good life and have been through a lot and I am terrified to lose it because of an old warrant.

I am wondering if there is a Statute of Limitations for felony warrants in the state of North Carolina. If so, what is it and how would it apply? This warrant is bordering on ten years now. I know it is considered inactive but that it still shows up on their computer. What exactly doe "inactive" mean? Could I still go to prison after all of these years for a felony drug crime? I never served time in NC but have served close to 3 years in another state.
What would be the appropriate way to clear this up? I know I should hire a lawyer but I am a student and living hand to mouth. Please help. I want to fix this so I can move on and not worry about losing everything I have worked so hard to do. i don't want to be always considered a criminal.

thank you
~P
