My Boyfriend & I [ both 17 years old ] recently attended a concert last Friday [ June 21 ] in Sayreville, New Jersey.

No matter what the age was, everyone was drinking, smoking and so much more. My boyfriend and I drank, and actually we got kicked out of the show because kids around us were smoking a cigarette – and we were considered to be part of their group. We ended up meeting these kids who we befriended and we allowed them to smoke in our car and just hang out with us. They left eventually and had left their adderal & some weed in my boyfriend's car.

He wasn't feeling at all well, but we were upset about being kicked out and attempted to drive home. There had just been a large storm and the roads were wet and it was still raining out slightly. Upon making a wide turn, cars were parked along the side of the road & my boyfriend's mirror hit someone else's, breaking it. We understood what he had done but there were a large amount of cars parked along the road, we could not stop. We went a bit further and pulled off to the side.

I suppose the people behind us called the cops or someone in a house had heard us, but within 10-15 minutes of being pulled over the cops asked us to drive up further and asked for his license and registration. They were quite rude to my [ very drunk ] boyfriend who was actually just being very relaxed and not understanding the consequences we had gotten ourselves into. I was crying, and the only test they had given me was that with a pen. I was never breathalyzer or anything – although my boyfriend was. I forget his number, but it was very high.

Neither of us had snorted the adderal or smoked any weed. We both did admit to drinking. I talked to him and they had given him 7 tickets. Four of which were: Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of Drugs, Possession of Open Alcohol.

I know everything was our fault, we are young, foolish & made a horrible mistake which could have gotten someone else or ourselves seriously hurt.

But I was just very curious: I know for several of these tickets, a punishment is losing your license for 7 months – 1 year. Would he simply get a certain amount between 6 months – 1 year for all these tickets – or could they all get times and be added up for a long period of time?

I'm very nervous. I didn't get any tickets but I was still told I will eventually have to go to court. I am just more concerned for my boyfriend and what will happen to him.

Thank you.

Also, once we turn 18, will this event be erased from our records?
I was told by several people that it would be - but I just wanted to be sure...

I am not familiar with the punishments for those offenses in your state, but I am sure his attorney would know (and he really needs to get one).

However, it is a common misperception that one's juvenile record disappears at age 18 ... this is just not true. There are procedures that can be followed that might permit it to be sealed from public view, or, maybe even expunged, but these often require an attorney and that a certain amount of time has passed. It may be several years before he can even think about petitioning the court to have any of these removed.

As I said, he really needs to speak to an attorney.
