At my arraignment, which was 3 weeks after my arrest, i find out that the DA (of a relatively small city) hasn't filed my case yet (which involves a felony). Is this rare? My lawyer told me she's only seen it happen once. What exactly does it mean when the DA doesn't file the case in time?

I suppose it means that the arraignment had to be postponed.

What state is this from?

If no case was filed, then it would seem that you were not arraigned, correct?

In that case, you wait until your next court appearance - if any. The DA may choose to issue a summons or seek an arrest warrant next time.

There could be a number of reasons why the DA did not file the paperwork prior to arraigment. Right now you'll just have to wait and see what is going to happen.

An arrest warrant is just one way to do it ... depending on the circumstances.

Chances are they will just contact your attorney for the next court date - if any.

Not knowing the details of your case and the evidence against you, I have no idea.
