My best friends girlfriend took her life at her house, ( its all personal information I do not want to put out especially if its not about me) . In no way was he there or responsible he had no idea. But They had a baby that is 6 months old. Her parents hate him so when the police came they said that since he was not at the site her parents get temporary custody, even though he is the dad of this baby. How is it possible, can he get his baby without having to wait months in court, and if not how long would it take? Thank you for any advice. I'd appreciate it.

The police or DHS/DHR/DFCS/CPS placed Baby with grandparents? Is he the legal father (declared so by a court of law/signing of acknowledgement of paternity)? If not, he'll need to hire an attorney ASAP to establish his rights.

Please accept my condolences for your loss.
Apparently the deceased and the baby's father were unmarried.
Unmarried males have no inherent legal rights to their alleged offspring.

So, you advise the baby's father to obtain state sponsored paternity, and the state's help to establish his custodial right, eventually he'll get custody.

Some things just take time. If they were married, it would be a different story.
