My dad passed away almost 3 years ago with no will and his lawyer is just now sending me documents that i have to sign but i have no idea what they mean. It's called Waiver and renunciation of rights to letters of administration. and its asking me to waive and renounce my right to be appointed independent administratrix and to receive letters of administration in decedent's estate in favor of my step mother who is qualified person. What is this and should i sign it

I suggest you take those documents to a lawyer in your county.
Ask that lawyer to explain the ramifications of signing those documents.
If I were your lawyer, I'd tell you not to sign them.
But, I don't know the entire situation, that's why you need to consult an attorney, your attorney.

Don't do anything, or agree to anything until you've consulted with a lawyer.

It'll cost you $200-300, but it may save you thousands.

You need to determine what you'll be GIFTING to his wife, your stepmom.

I definitely agree with seeing a lawyer. If you are entitled to any assets in the will, you don't want to jeopardize that.
