My daughter is in 8th grade at an Illinois public middle school. She wrote a list of other student's names down on a piece of paper. Another student told a teacher that my daughter made a "hit list". The paper just has names written on it, nothing threatening. Now the school board is threatening to expel her from school for this.

What are legal options here? Are there attorneys that deal primarily with school issues?

I totally agree with Deb, if there is nothing else here the school board is only blowing smoke. There are any number of reasons for having a list of names. I wouldn't know how to tell you to look for an attorney for this matter. A good general practice attorney will eat their lunch if they expel her for nothing more than making a list of students.

Tell her, to make absolutely no statements to anyone without an attorney present.
