I have a man living in my house. There was no written agreement made, but a verbal agreement that he was to have the house refinanced in his name in 6 months. It has been seven months since the agreement was made. Each month he has paid $926 for my mortgage and $100 for the insurance. In January he paid $1388 for property taxes. 7 1/2 months later he still has not taken steps to get the property in his name. I have taken steps for him to move out, and he told me he would be moving out on April 1st. Now he is trying to tell me I owe him almost $9000 for insurance, taxes, and repairs (which I never authorized); I have made no profit or gain whatsoever from him living in my house, and I do not think I owe him anything. What do I do?

Good question. Were the repairs necessary? The taxes were most certainly due. The insurance? At this point it I don't know enough of the fine details of the deal but it sounds like the part that would involve negotiating is the repairs, I don't know what the insurance was for (homeowners?) and who was supposed to pay.

I'd say the tenant is out of luck.
