I have several credit cards in default as well as couple of secured accounts (TV), medical bills and foreclosure. American Express already obtained judgment. Would you please advise if any of the debtors can attach personal property bought several years ago. I was told that they can take away all of the possessions except for $1000 allowance. Thank you very much in advance.

I have no idea what your situation is exactly nor the property that you may own. Why do you think you have an exemption for certain property? The bottom line is that if they can find it, chances are they will try to seize it and all you are doing is fighting a losing battle. Most of the time these collectors know what they can seize and it doesn't pay for them to try to obtain that which will be a losing battle in the end. You're probably best off trying to figure out how to pay this account off and selling the assets before you'll have to pay for the collection fees as well. My advice? Stop the bleeding as soon as possible. Good luck to you.
