My indigent mother passed away 6 months ago intestate. She had no personal property and rented her apartment, but had a $783 credit card bill. The creditors now know that she is deceased and are addressing letters to my grandparents at their address with the title of "Executor of" my mothers name. I am the official executor and paid for all her funeral expenses. Does anyone have an example letter that I could send to the creditors to get them to stop harassing my grandparents? I do not plan to pay the bill.

Mucho thanks!

Please accept my condolences upon your mother's recent demise.
May you heal and remember her time on this earth.
You can simply send a copy of your mother's death certificate.
It need not be a certified copy.
A photocopy version will suffice.

You need not write anything.
If you choose to send a letter, you might say:

To whom it may concern:

My dear mother Mrs. Ida Mae Brown passed away on 31 March 2011 in Happytown, ID. I have enclosed a photocopy of her death certificate.

Mother died intestate and penniless. Please notate your records accordingly, as no one in our family will assume responsibility for any of her alleged debts.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Roberta Brown-Jensen
Daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Ida Mae Brown
