hi,my father died 2 months ago,and he owed a heating oil company $565 for oil. he was 82,on wellfare and social security.i live in his very old ,very run down house. im also on wellfare with no other income and i also have medical problems, im 54. am i responsable for his $565 debt to the oil company ? he never signed any contract to make monthly payments to the oil company, but they allowed him to do so,at $120 a month. can they have his house sold to get the debt paid? im going to have the house put in my name soon.thank you. donn

Q: can they have his house sold to get the debt paid?

A: Yes. You will have to use the assets in his estate to pay his bills. You, however, are not responsible for any of his debts unless you take some property from the estate.
