I just found out that my ex got evicted from his place for not paying rent and he, along with his wife and kid, are living in some type of welfare motel, in South Carolina (where the support agreement is). can they go after his welfare to pay his support? Just because he is too lazy to work does not mean that he should get out of his oblication to his kid (well actually 2, he has another in NY state)? I just found out this info today and am going to be calling support enforcement in the morning to let them know that he moved. Also, they are going to be issuing a contempt in a week or so and taking him to court, can the Judge force him to get a job? I was going to ask that if he gets jail time to give him weekend time so he can still work and pay his kid the money he owes him. Thanks!

the judge cannot force him to get a job but they can put him in jail if he continues to not pay support. By the way since you know your ex is a deadbeat all you can do is provide the best you can for your son and if you happen to see some CS then that is great. All child support enforcements are different when it comes to filing contempt. Many are much too overworked and understaffted to pay any attention until arrears get a certain amount.
