while under an internal investigation at work, an assistant manager disclosed investigation information that is confidential to a co-worker of mine who is not management and who is not involved in the investigation. And also other co-workers of my are aware of this investigation. Is this an invasion of my privacy and defamation?

I have no idea.

I don't know if any of it is true.

If it bothers you, why not ask them about it.

If i were being investigated, I'd want to fly low, real low below the radar!

It could be. Kind of like how other employees at my former employer knew about my FMLA denial when I never mentioned it to anyone. How would they know anything about my FMLA or health related information unless it came directly from HR, who else would have that information? HIPPA and CA state medical privacy mean nothing I suppose, however, I was quite offended that the information had made it out to the general populous of employees. I typically do not partake in the gossip mill, and I expect the same respect in return, but there ya' have it.

Theretoo, this is not about you. This is about the OP. And the OP not only did NOT indicate that the information was medical, he never came back to answer the question. It is not appropriate for you to be interjecting your issue into his thread.

CBG, it is not appropriate for you to feel the need to control this thread. This is an "open" forum. ;)

Whether the information that the OP was discussing was of a medical nature or not, medical is an example of "confidential" information that should never be disclosed, under any circumstances. Whether the OP's question was specific about medical is irrelevent. Medical is just one type of confidential information that should never be disclosed beyond an investigation.

Theretoo, when you are invited to moderate these forums, you can decide what is relevant and what is not. It is NOT helpful for you to be interjecting your own circumstances that may or may not be relevant into every possible thread. As has been said before, this is not about you.
