I would like to know, if i take any legal actions against my employer for not taking any actions against another employee for defamation of character towards me on the social media

The law doesn't concern itself with name calling.
Your employer has no duty to stop others from calling you names in emails, by social stupidity, or in any other form.
The criminal law sometimes concerns itself with name calling via certain hate speech.
Barring that, I suggest you simply BLOCK or ignore the idiot calling you names.
If you wanted to pursue tis yourself, and have an extra $25,000 (or so) in disposable funds, most attorneys would take your money!
Be advised, just because you bring a lawsuit, doesn't mean you'll prevail.

Your employer does not have any control over what someone says on social media, nor should they get involved in interpersonal disputes between employees. They can reasonably expect all employees to be civil while at work and not impede the company's mission but they are not your parents nor a referree. There is a slight exception if it is work related and has the potential to impact the company directly. Then, I would bring it to the attention of the powers that be.

"Jojo kicks puppies and clubs baby seals"- you are on your own

"Jojo, an accountant for XYZ Corp., has been embezzling funds and falsifying reports to investors"- report

Either way you have zero case against the employer.
