Alcohol & Drugs: DUI, DWI Denied court appointed attorney

my son 19 was arrested for DWI in Deer Park, Texas and a Harris County judge denied him a court appointed attorney because he was driving my new car when he was arrested and he has a job. He just started this past Sat. and will not be paid for two weeks and has to return to court on the 16th of July. What are his rights regarding a court appointed attorney in Harris County? Tina

Court appointed Atorneys are based on people's income. His must exceed the maximum allowed.

This is a very serious charge and he really needs his own attorney.
