Whats the difference in expectations for obtaining an attorney over going through the department of labor. Besides the difference in amount of years they can go back vs the department of labor will an attorney be able to get you significantly more compensation? In my issue it has to do with unpaid nationwide travel and overtime associated with it over 2 years, where we were only getting paid a third of our time. For example 30 hours actual work time paid 60 hours of travel unpaid in an individual week.

Why not visit a few local attorneys who practice employment law, labor law, or civil litigation ad see what you can learn?

As far as FREE or PAID legal representation, you get the value you invest.

Do you actively seek FREE medical care, or do you prefer to pay for it or use a health insurance program?

The choice is yours, but investigate ALL options, deliberate, and decide.
 
Whether or not your were owed travel time is the real question here. Not every hour spent in travel is necessarily compensable.
 
Were you a non-exempt employee? (It does "sound like" it.) An exempt employee does not get paid overtime. Also, as cbg noted, all travel time is not paid time.
