My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon

This is pretty lame, I know, but yesterday I was in a small bead store and took a ring and a strand of beads. It was an old shop and obviously had no cameras or LP. But now I am freaking out that they will somehow realize it was me and the police will come to my house to arrest me.

I did not buy anything, so they don't have any personal info and I was parked blocks away from the shop, so they couldn't have seen my car.

I suppose there could've been super hidden cameras, but what is the likelihood that I will have cops knocking at my door to arrest me? :(

no i dont think they gonna come and look for you !! ones u walked out from the store and nothing happen you should be fine!! and just don't go to that store for like a month or so !!

I am never gonna go back again! It was so stupid. I could've totally afforded to pay for the beads (they were $20) and the ring was $25. So dumb. I am freaking out. So there is no way they are gonna get me??? I can't eat, sleep, and it's all i can think about :(

Your asking us to be physic! We do not know what they saw or di dnot see or if they do or do not have cameras. We don't know if they have a means to ID you either. If they did and they pursue charges then you can look over your shoulder for next two years which is when statute of limitations runs out approx.

It was the oldest, smallest store. They even had an old fashioned cash register, so I highly doubt they had cameras.

Would a store really launch an investigation over less than $50?

Your making assumptions! Just because they are old does not mean they have no cameras, although you could be right. If the store chooses to investigate a theft is up to store, if they even noticed the theft in time. We cannot answer your questions, sorry

without cameras ( I know I am speculating) how else could they know who I am? I didn't buy anything and I parked blocks away (it is a small store on a city block).

Not playing guessing games! There are many ways they "could ID you. They might follow you to your car and get plates. We can only guess which isnt going to answer your question. I will add this with you parking blocks away this might show intent which could take this to felony levels

Intent for parking away? I only parked away cause there is no parking in front of the store and I was walking around that area...

Are you just trying to scare me? You can't be serious.

What the poster was suggesting, since your post was limited. Is that one could suggest you parked "blocks away" so no one would see you leave and get your plates. If that was case the DA could argue you intended to steal and thus take the theft into felony level. No one wants to scare you. We are here to help. In all likihood you got away clean. I would though avoid returning to that store for a few months

Thank you for your reply.

Honestly, I had NO intent of going in there to steal. There is no parking in front or around that building, since it is on a city block. So I wouldn't have been able to park out front even if I wanted to.

I am so scared and it was so stupid. I could afford what I stole and have no idea why I did it. I told my husband tonight and he is upset with me. I am upset with myself too. Such a stupid thing to do.

Don't go back to the store.

A "smalled older" store will recognize you much faster than a "big box" store if they noticed stuff missing, they might have had a few enough customers to narrow it down to you.
And they may have cameras, so if they did get you on video, they might just be saving the tape/DVD until you come back and they'll call the cops.
