I have a question around my options based on my following experience today.
My wife took my car in for service today at a local auto dealer, she informed the service adviser that she will be waiting in the sales area next door and was informed that there are a few card ahead of you and it will take approximately one and a half hour. This is around 4pm, the service centre closes at 6pm. The adviser asked my wife is she was going to be around and my wife responded by saying that she will be here waiting for the car.
My wife went next door to the same dealership sales section and kept waiting for around 2 hours, i also joined her around 5pm and we had some business with the sales person at the dealership. Out discussion with the sales associate finished around 5.55pm and we walked over to the services centre at exactly 5.59pm (i looked my watch at the time i reached the entrance of the services section). The doors were locked and there was no one in the office. The service centre timings are from 7.00 am till 6.00 pm. They had closed the service center ahead of time and everyone was gone before it was even 6.00pm. There was no one who would advise what we were supposed to do, we walked over to the sales section again. Talked to the sales manager, the receptionist but they couldnt help. The receptionist was even kind enough to call the service centre a couple of times and also walked to the back of the office to see if someone was there. But they had all left before the listed closure time.

We had to return back to our home without the car. Because of this, i had to miss a couple of very important appointments in the SFO area which is approximate 50 miles from the dealership. Also, my family had to leave for Orange County tonight to attend to some very important matters, which is why we had taken the car in for servicing.

We had a baby who is now about 2 weeks old. My wife has to breastfeed the baby, and because of this long wait she could not get back home in time to breastfeed the baby, i also suffered embarrassment because i had to cancel my two appointments. Not to mention the mental agony that i and my wife had to go throughout this time.

I would like to understand what my options are. I would appreciate if someone can provide me guidance and advise.

i can be contacted via email on officemails.sent at gmail.com
i look forward to hearing soon and also getting some good advice.

Your best option is to return in the morning to speak with the maintenance folks, make your complaint, and get your car back. A complaint with the GM might get you a small discount of some type. I'm curious... why didn't you just take your car back at the time?

It is possible that they never even started on your car since there were a few ahead and time was short.
It is possible that they attempted to locate your wife and could not find her.
You will just have to go back and talk with them to find these things out.

If you are unhappy enough with them then take your car to another shop next time you need service.

i could see that the car had been worked upon as it had been serviced and had been parked in the delivery area spot.
Also, i couldn't take my car because my keys were with the service advise and they had locked the office before the listed time.

There was no announcement made on the speaker system, nor did anyone come to find out if she was there. We checked.

The law doesn't offer a remedy for every perceived (or actual) transgression and/or slight.

But there has to be some accountability for such actions that cause others to suffer without their being at fault?

There is.

Don't patronize the business that fails to meet your expectations.

Or, do as Moose said, speak with the management about your concerns.
