About a week ago, I received a notice to appear for Disorderly Conduct. This is my first offence, and I'm freaked out a little bit. I'm a financial professional, and was celebrating a recent case. I drank a little too much, and was waiting outside the bar waiting for a ride. Apparently, it was evident that I was drunk, and I was messed with a little bit. So I decided to wait in my car. While waiting I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of police officers knocking on my window. Because I was in my vehicle (dumb move) they could have cited me with a dui. However, they were nice enough to call someone else for a ride and only gave me a notice to appear. On the paperwork, they didn't put any information on the form. I signed it. My question is. Would there be any other information that the police could give the judge? Will the officer be present? Because that night was a little foggy. On the notice to appear form, there is space for a description of the charge, but nothing was written. Should I expect any surprises standing before the judge? I thought that when I signed the form, it would have to include everything about that night, if the officers chose to do so.

Also, what can I expect as a charge. Being a business professional and my first offence ever.

You didn't mention the state this happened in.

In general, these matters are rather low-level affairs. In some states they might be a civil matter rather than criminal. It would always be best to consult with a local attorney before court just to make sure there are no surprises, but I doubt this will be a huge issue for anyone. It can likely be resolved by a fine only.

To the cops, this is not going to be a huge issue. If they had something more to charge you with, they likely would have done so.

However, different states define this crime ... well, differently. So I would suggest you consult a local attorney to be safe.
