Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Diversion Programs in CA

I was recently arrested and released with a ticket for petty theft. I have an arraignment scheduled but I don't know what to do or expect. I have read that there are diversion programs, but I'm not exactly sure how that works. I want to know if and how I can qualify for that.
