With a divorce after 30 years of marriage--can my spouse deduct his worth in dollars from the marital assets regarding a business he owned prior to, but maintained throughout the marriage? We had no pre-nup and have always had joint bank accounts.

The spouse of mention has been controlling and verbally abusive for many years. :(

This question is best posed to your attorney.

If you're doing this pro se, don't.

Yoiu can hire an attorney and have his/her fees paid from the marital assets.

It seems as if there are funds for him to hire an attorney, you need one, too.

Speak to a couple and hire one ASAP.

If you have one, ask him/her.

By the way, forget that abusive and controlling stuff. You put up with it for 30 years. Its too late to complain about that now. Stick only to the substantive facts surrounding the deterioration of your marriage.
