I am a private practice psychologist. Estranged wife via her attorney states I owe ex-wife a percentage of my business even though I am a solo practioner. The approximate value is 300k. How do I figure out what I owe her? We were married 21 years. She does not work and courts have stated she is too disabled to be assigned a potential salary value for her work capabilities. We have one minor child, age 16.

Both the ex and I do not want to spend on a forensic accountant. She asked me to make an offer. I do not know where to begin.

You do have an attorney correct? You most definitely need one. If your ex has one then you need one.

What was the practice worth when you were married? Subtract that from its current value and then offer to split it. I would strongly suggest that you talk to an accountant and then consider formal mediation to resolve all marital property issues. Making an offer usually only tends to string things out and I would strongly recommend against it.
