About 8 years ago, my husband and I had a verbal agreement with his mother and father that they would will us a piece of property. We purchased and placed a manufactured home on said property and made multiple improvements to the land. My husband and I are currently going through a divorce. In the divorce, I have taken up prime residence of our family home with our three children. My husbands father is now deceased and his mother just gave the property away to another family member. This family member just served me paperwork requiring that I move in 60 days removing our manufactured home, that he has the intention of placing a home on the property. What rights do I have? My home is very modern and fixed onto the property (we purchased the home for 60k and made about 15k worth of improvements to the property). I want to end up with the home and property at the end of the divorce, at least until our youngest child, who is 3 turns 18.

Your mother in law owns the property.

You and your hubby were only promised the property.

A promise unfulfilled is not actionable at law.

Promises lack consideration.

A promise with consideration is a contract.

You had no contract.

You built a home on property you never owned.

It doesn't matter if it's a castle.

It isn't on your land.

You were never given the property.

I suggest you speak with an real estate or proprtty attorney,ASAP.

The consultation is normally at no charge.

Subsequent that conversation, you'll know what you're legally required to do.

I won't tell you here.

You need to be sitting down when you're told.

Things don't bode well for you.

Now is the time to make a deal.

From what you say, it may be too late for deals!
