The DMV of Sacramento California has stated that they received a report from the state of NEW YORK that my license was suspended or revoked in the state of NEW YORK. The DMV in California states they will cancel my driver's license in 30 days if i do not clear this action against my driving privileges in NEW YORK. I have been a legal resident in the state of California for 21 years. My license was suspended in New York in 1985 due to uninsured vehicle. In 1987 the City of New York gave me a limited license to drive to work. I drove to work in California where I was given a driver's license with full privileges. I have renewed my license multiple times and don't understand why this is happening now. What are the steps to take in this matter? Is there a statuate of limitations involving driving license?

It looks like you got lucky in California when they issued you a driver's license with full privileges when you could only have one with limited privileges. The fact that you have been a resident in CA for 21 years doesn't erase the fact that your NY history still is on your records. By the way, there is no statute of limitations on driver licenses issues so you will have to address this issue in NY and hope to get your DL from CA with full privileges back.

Contact the NY DMV and find out what you must do to clear it up there.
