i have been with my employeer for almost seven years, over the last year or so i have been having some dental problems wich have lead to a few missing teeth. my GM pulled me aside at the end of last year and again today wanting to know when i planned on getting them fixed. First of all my theeth or lack of in this case has no bearing on my ability to preform my job i am a server at a well known corporate owned resturaunt and i am aware that appearance plays a roll however i don't have a toothy smile to begin with and there has never been a guest complaint regarding my appearance. i have a real fear of the dentist but i took out dental insurance in order to try and address the problem however the insurance wont cover what i need to have done until i have had the policy for a year i've had it four months this is really starting to bother me and i feel like my Gm is leading up to an ultimatum what can i do?

Get the teeth fixed, put up with the comments, or find employment with a less petty employer.

Unless you are in the District of Columbia, no law exists prohibiting "discrimination" based on personal appearance.

I share your dental phobia and I am not unsympathetic, but nothing you have posted gives you any legal recourse against your GM or your employer. Even if you were to lose your job over this issue, that would still not be actionable.
