Greetings, about 2 months ago I went to jail for a minor infraction, however, when I went, I was current on all rent and utilities, and have reciepts to prove this. After 2 weeks of "not seeing me around", my landlord assumed the property was abandoned, and sold all of my belongings, which included roughly $10,000 in business assets (I'm still adding up all of my reciepts, but it's close to $10,000). This has caused me to now be out of a business, and jobless. I am now, as a rsult of this, also homeless, staying with in-laws.
My local police department says there is nothing they can do criminally, saying it is a civil matter, so I filed a police report. On an interesting note, the police DID question my lanlord, and he admitted doing these things, and the officer put that in his report.
Do I have a case against my landlord? And how would I do it? Small claims her ein Florida is limited to $5,000, so what do I do (assuming I have a case)?
Thank you in advance to anyone repsonding to this post, and may God bless you all.

I'd say that unless FL laws allow a landlord to assume the property after such a short period without being in arrears, then you have a great civil suit against him. It sounds like you have a bigger case than small claims.

I agree with Jacksgal - speak to an attorney?
