A few months ago my mother fell and injured her knee which ended up requiring surgery. While she was in the hospital a doctor walked in looked at what the problem was and said he couldn't help her and told the nurse to call someone else. Then one day he came into her room and said that he was at the hospital seeing another patient and saw her name and stopped in to see how she was doing. Next thing she knows is that she gets a bill for $1500! She called and argued and he said it was his consultation fee. She refused to pay it and it went to collections. She tried again and they told her that it looks like she has good credit and did she really want to mess that up. So now she is paying them $100 a month for 15 months.
She had no insurance and doesn't make mouch money. Now she has this on top of all the other medical bills. Is there anything she can do?
