Does anybody know how Legal Aid decides which cases to enter into?

Assuming that you've passed the qualifiers of income, assets, yada yada

What are the deciding factors as to Legal Aid agreeing to represent a given case?

They usually do landlord-tenant matters, some wills, some emergency custody stuff, certain civil rights cases, senior law; they usually go for the low hanging or fallen fruit.

Their resources are limited.

Have you tried the American Bar Association Pro Bono site? They do some pro bono related work.

Maybe the next president will come up with a free legal care scam?

Lol. At times I do think my life has a recurring theme or habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, not quite in step with everyone else. I seem to like certain things before anyone else becomes aware of them, like meerkats for example. I've been fascinated and enraptured by them before they became famous television stars. Fashion wise, I either like certain styles before they are popular en masse or else I'm taken, kicking and screaming, dragging my heels before I'll accept the latest "in thing". I had my children while my friends were still exploring. And while they were only just starting out their families mine, at least as far as my husband was concerned, was falling apart. After I divorced, I wanted to go out and experience new things but by then my friends were home changing diapers or taking baby pictures, so as always I ended up flying mainly solo.

Perhaps if I had, like my electronics/computer equipment, a "synchronize" key I might be more in-tune?

Hmmmm, it could be that the Bar Association's radar would go off on me since my opinions I've voiced about them and their profession have not exactly been glowing with praise lately. And humility is not a strong suit of mine, oddly enough. I can feel humility inside well enough, I just feel uncomfortable having it on display on the outside of me.

They could turn on me and then things would get really twisted.

And here's another pattern in the making: limited funds. The investigation team has limited funds, Legal Aid has limited funds. And so do I! Shouldn't that make us blood brothers/sisters to look out for one another? If so, why am I the one left holding the bag???

Maybe I should be like Scarlet O'Hara and "think about that tomorrow". Lol.:blush
