My jurisdiction is: Minnesota
We purchased a front-load washing machine in October, 2003 along with a 5-year extended warranty totalling $1,100. Shortly before the extended warranty had expired, we had trouble. A part was replaced and it worked for a couple of months. We then had the same trouble. I called for service and a part was replaced again. The machine then worked for a few months and by this time the extended warranty had expired. I called for service again thinking I would now be responsible to pay the repair-I really had no problem doing that. A part was replaced and it worked for three loads and we then had the same trouble. So, I called for service for the fourth time. This time I was told that the part that needed replacing--a control board--was not available. I was told the company discontinued my model washing machine and the part that was needed would not fit my machine. I then called the company and was told by three different people that most likely I would get a replacement machine. I was also told that the reason for discontinuation of my model was because they have had trouble with them. After several calls and jumping through the company's hoops, I received a call stating they would give me $160.12 for "buyback" of my machine. My question is: Is a company obligated to make parts available for a certain amount of time after the purchase?
