Does statue of limitations fall into place

In 98, I co-signed for a purifying water system with my childrens father. When we seperated he took the water system with him. In 99, the attorney that is representing the company sent a letter stating that I owe a debt and to contact them. I contacted the attorney and told them that the "other party" has the purifying water system and that they need to go after him. I let her know that he doesn't pay child support and that any money that take from me will take food from my children's mouth. She asked if I had his contact information and I gladly provided it to her. They started garnishing his wages and I believe now that he is paying it himself.

I filed for child support this year and the "other party" told me if I didn't reverse the child support, he would have the attorney contact me and to start collecting the debt from me. I received a letter in the mail yesterday, stating this is a debt and listed the amount that was due and the interest rate. This is the first time in 10 years that they contacted me regarding this. This debt is no longer on my credit report. I would like to know if this falls under the Statue of Limitations? Per the "other party", he is paying this himself. Would they be able to come after me if he is paying? Can I write this attorney and let them know that the Statue of Limitations falls in to place and please do not contact me again?

Depending on the state this may or may not be past the statute of limitations. Best thing to do is to ignore them unless you get a court summons.
